Although I do not typically compose programmatic music, this piece naturally lends itself to a narrative interpretation. Road Taken traces an emotional journey as individuals search for their place in life, moving through a series of evolving states.
The work opens in a troubled, confused, and restless frame of mind. Questions arise, prompting a search for clarity—yet the search initially leads only to deeper uncertainty, disappointment, and renewed doubt. Gradually, however, a sense of hope emerges, giving way to moments of peace and even romance. A surge of triumph follows, and though a final flash of anger briefly reappears, the piece ultimately concludes with a feeling of contentment and the quiet assurance of having discovered where one truly belongs.
